Travel to Texas for Christmas

We’re heading down to Texas for Christmas early this year because my oldest son, Robert, is flying to Texas from Seattle for the week before Christmas. (His wife is working and caring for their kitties. Robert’s in school for a career change and has time off.)

Robert & Steph’s new kitties at their 1st checkup.

So the wagon train (Matilda RV) pulled out of our IL driveway around 10am Monday morning, then stopped right away for gas. We were on the road (backroads, as usual) for a couple of hours before stopping for lunch in Moline, IL.

Rachel and Blake at our lunch stop in Moline, IL. We’re decked out for Christmas.

I’d purchased matching Life Is Good®️ long-sleeved t-shirts for our drive down. (And the rest of the family in TX as well –for a surprise.) When my youngest son, Blake, (along for the ride, as well as our dogs, Artie & Gordy) and I stopped to run an errand in Target, I noticed he put on his coat. My hunch was correct –he didn’t want just the two of us to “match” inside the store! 😂

I’m doing some work on my notebook computer today (Tues 12/17/19) while Blake drives and Rachel navigates. I’ve kept the curtains up and window shades drawn to try and prevent motion sickness. I was doing okay until I started typing this blog post on my cell phone. (It’s faster to upload the phone pics this way.)

It was 16° when we awoke this morning in a WalMart parking lot in mid-Missouri. Rachel and I changed into our pj’s at the last pit stop last night, and put the dogs in bed before we went to bed in the back. Blake wanted to keep driving. (He’s excited to see his brother.) So I had no idea where he’d finally stopped sometime during the night. Oh to be young and drive long hours….

Ornament I had made in memory of Rachel’s son, Erik. His playful spirit is dearly missed.
Gordy *loves* to look out the window for the entire trip! Artie is content to rest (but Blake taking their picture got him up).

This about sums up our drive. We’ve got about 6 more hours on the road. Blake decided to switch over to the Interstate to get us there faster. I’m not sure he’d enjoy our slower, meandering ways when Rachel and I travel. 😏

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to you and yours!🌲 🕎
