Leaving Salt Lake City, we drove north to Nemah, Idaho for dinner & boondocking at Cracker Barrel.

The next day we picked up 34yr old Kris who needed a ride to Eugene, Oregon. We treated him to Dairy Queen for supper & dropped him off at a hotel in Bend on our way to LaPine State Park, just south of Bend.

The next evening was spent visiting Rachel’s childhood friend Joe Tyler & his wife Joan. Joe was a bobsledder in the 1980 Winter Olympics. The four of us walked to dinner at the Broken Top Bottle Shop. The next day they took us to lunch & shopping at Old Mill District in Bend, where Rachel bought some more supplies at REI, then they drove us up to Pilot Butte for the beautiful panoramic view.

From Bend we drove north and spent two nights at Trillium Lake Campground, OR. Unfortunately it rained and the paths around the lake were muddy, so we didn’t get much hiking in. I did get some nice images at the lake one evening.

The next day Rachel drove us to the Denny Creek Campground near North Bend, WA. I rode in the back of the RV and captured some beautiful cloud photos out of the window.

My daughter-in-law Steph dropped off my son Robert at the our Denny Creek Campground site that night, and before she left they helped get Rachel’s backpack packed for the PCT hike the next day.
